The Outreach committee is a very active group at Epworth United Methodist Church. The purpose of this committee is serve our neighbors locally, regionally, nationally, and globally through various charities, organizations, and services.
We have several ongoing mission efforts.
Every Monday and Tuesday, day old bread items, that would otherwise be thrown away, are delivered to our church in order to be distributed to anyone in need. We do this in partnership with Hy-Vee grocery store, St. Stephen’s Food Bank and the local Knights of Columbus organization.
The hours of the bread distribution are:
Epworth UMC offers a free community meal every Friday in our fellowship hall from 11:30am-12:30pm. During the meal, a volunteer fills the air with piano music. We provide a warm meal and fellowship that nourishes the body and soul. Volunteers also deliver meals to local citizens whom are home bound. If you know of someone in need of a delivered meal, please call the church office at 563-876-3193 to sign up.
Each month our church family donates all coins given into the offering plate to a specific charity or non-profit organization. These small offerings add up, and allow people a chance to contribute to efforts around the world.
The Outreach Committee has supported a “Backpack Ministry” at our church for the last three years to provide food items to children in the community in need. These backpacks are filled with food items and sent home from school on the weekends with children in an effort to prevent hunger. We are very excited about this ministry.
The Outreach Committee and the Epworth United Church is blessed with kind hearts and many working hands, together we are reaching out to our community.
The people of EUMC have served on mission trips to Joplin, Alaska, Guatemala, and many Iowa communities. The 2017 mission trip is to Detroit, Michigan to work with Cass Community Services in building tiny houses.
The Epworth Community Food Pantry is a joint ministry of the Epworth United Methodist Church in conjunction with other area churches and members of the community. It serves residents in the Western Dubuque Community.
The Food Pantry is located in St. Elizabeth Faith Formation Building, (building east of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church) Epworth, Iowa. If you are in need of assistance from the Food Pantry, call 563-876-3193.
